Local Army Vet Starts Fitness Boot Camp in Lynnfield

Lynnfield resident Michael Palmer served for eight years in the Army - some of that time helping fellow soldiers stay physically fit – and starting on Monday July 8, locals who want to get in shape can join his new B Strong Boot Camp workouts in town.

In a recent conversation with Lynnfield Patch, Palmer reported that he has lived in Lynnfield since 2010 with his wife and three daughters. He remains an active Massachusetts National Guard member and served a 15-month tour in Iraq. Before his time in the Army, Palmer, a 33-year-old Winthrop native, played on Salve Regina's football team.

A licensed and certified instructor who taught physical fitness to groups of soldiers, Palmer says that he uses the Army’s HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) methods, with circuit training added in. There will also be occasional group runs, with drills focused on burning fat and getting the heart rate up.

Palmer said that this training is good for all fitness levels. For example, group members will often do a set of 45-second long rapid exercise routines, with 15 second increments of rest - while still operating within their own abilities.

“This is more, ‘you do what you can, you work hard,’” said Palmer. “A beginner can make great progress.”
