Hometown: Attleboro, MA
Birthday: October 3rd
Bio A life-long Massachusetts resident, Sara grew up in Attleboro, attended school in Boston and now lives in Wakefield. Sara earned her bachelor's degree from Boston University, where she majored in Journalism and minored in International Relations. While a student at BU, Sara had the opportunity to intern for the Boston Metro and the Boston Globe, and she also began to freelance for the Allston-Brighton Tab, where she covered police and fire news. After graduation, Sara worked for two years as the sole staff writer of the property-casualty insurance publication, The Standard. Sara continued to freelance for the Allston-Brighton Tab until the summer of 2010, when she was hired as the editor the Wakefield Patch. In her free time, Sara plays Ultimate (Frisbee) for a nationally competitive women's club team, which finished third in the entire country this past season. Ask her about it!
My Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for them to inject their beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that their beliefs are on the record will cause them to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics
I am a registered Democrat, and I would describe my political beliefs as mostly liberal, especially related to social issues. I am unsure where I stand on economic issues such as labor unions.
Religion
I was raised Roman Catholic, but in light of the priest scandals, I find it hard to believe in the entity of a church. I still go to Mass with my family on Christmas Eve and Easter.
