From time to time, Lynnfield Patch highlights items spotted on eBay.com and how they relate to the town's past.
Submitted, for your consideration (with apologies to Rod Serling) – a menu that's been around for almost as long as there's been motorists on Route 1. It's from the former Ship’s Haven restaurant, predecessor of “The Ship” on Route 1, that appears to date back to the 1930s. And it's also got some very useful local history information casually tucked away on the back page. Word is that if you buy the menu and open it at midnight, an apparition will appear and utter the phrase, "Say, what'll ya have, Mac?" as something vaguely resembling the Lindy Hop plays tinnily off in the background. But I digress. This 1930s menu, with an asking price of $9.99, features some old stand-by dishes, some of which would be at home on any menu today, and …

Longtime Lynnfield landmark opened on Wednesday featuring seafood, Italian and international cuisine. Business in a soft opening mode at the outset.
Lynnfield restaurant The Ship has re-opened for business in a so-called "soft opening" mode expected to last a couple of weeks. The place had been vacant since the former Mount Vernon at the Ship closed in the fall of 2011. In September 2012, owner Nino Micozzi went before Lynnfield selectmen to report that he would be re-opening the restaurant in the spirit of the golden age of the restaurant, which dates back to about the 1930s. The opening took longer than initially expected, but on Wednesday, the restaurant was back in business. The menu features a number of seafood and Italian favorites - but there's also an international theme to it that simulates stopping at various ports around the world. Diners at the new incarnation of The Ship …

Each week, Lynnfield Patch takes a look at images from the town's past and talks about what's there today. This week, we came across a formative moment for a longtime Lynnfield landmark.
As noted late last year on this website, The Ship is expecting to reopen at some point in early 2013. Management had originally hoped to have the place open by Thanksgiving before moving the target date back. Those driving by the restaurant on Route 1 this month may have noticed its sign saying that waitstaff are now being interviewed - although a stop inside the longtime local landmark last week failed to secure the new target opening date. That said, the place does look pretty good inside. Which brings me to this week's Then And Now column. Once again, I'm borrowing an old press image currently up for sale on eBay because the image is simply that significant to the town's history. The image is stamped by Argental Images and went out as …

With renovations of Route 1 landmark still underway, The Ship's planned re-opening is now expected soon after the holidays.
Back in September, Nino Micozzi, owner of The Ship, appeared at a Lynnfield selectmen's meeting with his attorney for the renewal of the establishment's liquor license, which was approved. At the time, Micozzi told Lynnfield Patch that his new restaurant would invoke the classic earlier days of The Ship. This week, Lynnfield Patch checked in with Micozzi Management, Inc., for an update on the project. The classic Lynnfield restaurant is now expecting to re-open its doors soon after the holidays, with a tentative date of January 15, 2013. Early this fall, the restaurant ownership had initially hoped to have the business open by Thanksgiving. However, renovations are still underway in the building, resulting in the pushed back opening date. …

Owner, new management of The Ship on Route 1 working to emulate the restaurant's golden days.
One of the North Shore's best-known dining landmarks is set to re-open its doors later this year, possibly around Thanksgiving. Attorney Jeff Goldberg and Ship owner Nino Micozzi were among those in attendance at Monday night's Lynnfield selectmen's meeting seeking renewal of the site's liquor license, which was approved. Opening will also depend on regulatory procedures with the town board of health and state alcoholic beverages commission. The previous incarnation of the restaurant, Mount Vernon at The Ship, went out of business last year and the landmark building has been largely vacant since then. The site on Route 1 South has been home to a Ship-shaped restaurant since at least the 1930s, noted Selectman Bob MacKendrick. Back then, it…
