Summer Street School Auction Raised $18K

Annual spring fundraising event is largest of the year for the school, with proceeds helping to provide classroom materials.

On Saturday, April 27, the Summer Street School’s PTO hosted its largest fundraiser of the year at the Ferncroft Country Club. The fiesta-themed event featured a fun and festive atmosphere with delicious food, a DJ and dancing, over 70 silent auction items and close to 40 raffles. The primary goal of the event was to raise funds for student enrichment programs, as well as for much needed materials in the classrooms. On behalf of the fiesta fundraiser committee, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the Lynnfield community, local businesses and families who generously sponsored our event and donated silent auction and raffle items to help make our fundraiser a huge success. Fourth Graders Gather Items for Food Pantry

Summer Street School held food drive to benefit Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.

Summer Street School Fourth Grade Student Council ran a food drive for the local Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry. The students collected non-perishable items along with paper products. In total they filled five grocery baskets for the food pantry. Congratulations on a job well done! Spring Auction Fiesta to Benefit Summer Street School

Community Businesses and Parents Asked to Donate Auction Items

The following was provided by the Summer Street School PTO: The Summer Street School PTO is planning an auction to benefit the students at the school.   The Fiesta is scheduled for Saturday April 27, 2013 from 7:00-11:00pm at the Ferncroft in Middleton and will feature a DJ, Mexican fare and an auction with exciting items ranging from sporting tickets to restaurant gift certificates to two nights at a luxury hotel in San Francisco.   Tickets for the event are $50 before March 31 and $60 in the weeks leading up to the event (until maximum capacity is reached).    The Auction Committee is asking members of the community to donate goods and services, sporting event tickets, gift cards and other items to auction.  All proceeds from the auction…

Fourth Grade Council at Lynnfield's Summer Street School recently held a coat drive for Cradles to Crayons.

The Fourth Grade Student Council at Summer Street School organized a coat drive in February for Cradles to Crayons. New and gentlly used coats, hats, gloves and mittens were collected and donated during the month of  February. A total of 30 large bags of clothing were dropped off at a local site by Mrs. Jameson. During the month of March they are organizing a can food drive for a local food pantry.

Summer Street Students 'Playing It Forward' For Needy Kids

This week at Summer Street School, drop off new or gently used sporting equipment to be donated to needy children.

As they get ready for next week's moving on ceremony, the fourth graders of the Summer Street School Class of 2012 are doing a service project to collect sporting goods for needy children in the U.S. and overseas. On Friday, David Cohen, the founder of Playing It Forward, was at the school to talk to the students about his work and what led him to start the nonprofit. Cohen also happens to be married to Lynnfield native Lauren (Ellerin) Cohen, who herself once graduated from Summer Street School. Lauren is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Philip Ellerin, also of Lynnfield. Cohen, a Framingham resident, is a former college athlete who founded Playing It Forward in 2009. Summer Street School Collects for Gathering Change, Inc.

Students at Summer Street School raised $1,663.62 for local food pantries.

The following is an announcement from Gathering Change, Inc. For the second year in a row, the Student Council of Summer Street School chose Gathering Change, Inc. as one of its fundraising efforts this spring. The council, comprised of 40 fourth graders and two teachers, Kristine Percoskie and Patti Heldenbergh, exists to organize community service and fundraising for local charities.  Gathering Change, Inc. raises money within local communities and then donates it to neighborhood food pantries. Summer Street School embraces a school-wide theme of being a good person who contributes to the community. Inspired by the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today? On Tuesday, students and colleagues congratulated Jane Tremblay on her recent principal of the year honor.

As reported last week in this and other local media outlets, Summer Street School Principal Jane Tremblay was named the 2012 recipient of the Thomas C. Passios award, which goes to the Massachusetts Elementary School Principal of the year. Tremblay and her colleagues traveled together on a rented bus to Hyannis last week, where she accepted the award. As noted in last week's article, Tremblay will travel to Washington D.C. later this year where she will meet the U.S. secretary of education and where she will also be among those in the running for national principal of the year. Tremblay Selected For Mass. Elementary Principal Of The Year

Summer Street School principal is state's elementary school principal of the year. Will receive award in Hyannis later Wednesday.

Lynnfield Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas W. Jefferson announced this week that Jane Tremblay, principal of the Summer Street School, is this year's recipient of the Thomas C. Passios Award. The annual award is presented by the Massachusetts Elementary School Principals Association (MESPA) to the Massachusetts Elementary School Principal of the Year. Dr. Mitchell Chester, commissioner of education in Massachusetts, will present the award to Tremblay at the annual MESPA conference Wednesday in Hyannis. Later in the year, Tremblay is expected to travel to Washington D.C. to meet the secretary of education and to represent Massachusetts at a gathering of counterparts from across the nation.
