When the MarketStreet Lynnfield development is up and running late this year, Lynnfield Police hope to have an outreach center, an officer who's trained with a bicycle, and two new officers as part of their strategy to keep up with demand for service calls. In a phone conversation with Patch.com this week, Police Chief David Breen talked about some of his department's priorities as the largest development in the town's history prepares to get up and running. He also talked about some of the things he has learned by studying comparable developments, such as Legacy Place in Dedham. Town's Community Space to be Named After Al Merritt

Citing former colleague's service to the town, selectmen vote to name community area at MarketStreet after Al Merritt.

The new community space at MarketStreet Lynnfield will be named after former Selectman Al Merritt, who resigned on December 31st for health reasons. Bob MacKendrick and Dave Nelson approved the proposal Monday night to name the forthcoming facility “The Al Merritt Media And Cultural Center.” Nelson noted that the name has already been discussed with both Merritt and with National Development, the company building MarketStreet Lynnfield. Merritt’s seat on the board of selectmen remains vacant until the April town election. Nelson noted that the naming choice was “in honor of Al’s service to the (MarketStreet) project and to his outstanding service to the town of Lynnfield.” MacKendrick concurred that naming the center after Merritt is “…

Meet Tom McGee, Lynnfield's New State Senator

Redistricting brought a new state senator to Lynnfield the first of the year.

Lynnfield may be a new part of State Senator Tom McGee's district, but the lawmaker has known the town well for much of his life. McGee, a Lynn Democrat, became the new state senator for Lynnfield following the latest round of redistricting. Prior to that, the town was represented by State Senator Katherine Clark, a Democrat from Melrose. In fact, during a recent conversation with Lynnfield Patch, McGee recalled that he briefly represented the town back in 2002 when he was first elected to the state senate in a special election to replace Edward "Chip" Clancy. Lynnfield resident Dick Shafner sent in this image from a recent flight that he took over the area. The photo shows the MarketStreet at Lynnfield development and the area near Walnut Street and Salem Street heading toward Wakefield. The view is from about 1,300 feet up, reports Shafner. Last summer, Shafner sent in another aerial shot of the MarketStreet at Lynnfield development, from about 1,200 feet up. A look back at this image shows just far the project has come in a relatively short period of time.

Lynnfield Whole Foods Gets Wine And Beer License

Representatives from Whole Foods appeared at selectmen's meeting this week for approval of wine and beer license.

The incoming Whole Foods at MarketStreet at Lynnfield will offer a selection of wine and beer for sale, in accordance with a retail package store wine and malt beverage license approved by selectmen this week. Karen Simao, an attorney for Whole Foods, was joined at this week's selectmen's meeting by other representatives of the company to answer questions about the planned beer and wine sales. Simao reported that all register staff at the Whole Foods will be TIPS trained for alcoholic beverage transactions and will also have to be over age 18. The Whole Foods will also have loss prevention mechanisms in place, such as mystery shoppers at times, regular meetings for employees to go over alcohol policies, and a requirement for customers to …

MarketStreet Now Has 15 Buildings Under Construction

Latest update from National Development indicates 15 buildings plus the golf course now under construction at site.

The MarketStreet at Lynnfield project now has 15 buildings under construction simultaneously, according to an update on National Development’s MarketStreetConstruction.com website. Some signs of things to come can be seen from the future MarketStreet entrance on Walnut Street – primarily the structures that in late 2013 will be home to Whole Foods, Legal C Bar, and other major tenants. In fact, the structure that will house the Whole Foods, Building 100, is reportedly now being enclosed by workers. Also, National Development reports that Arborpoint at MarketStreet, with 180 luxury apartments, is on track to open this fall and that along with three residential buildings, foundations for the future golf course clubhouse are now being worked …

Lynnfield's Water Capabilities Get An Upgrade

Area elected officials and MWRA authorities were at Lynnfield pump station on Route 1 to announce completion of water main project.

A two-year water main project along part of Route 1 in Saugus in Lynnfield is now complete, bringing improved capacity to both communities. On Monday morning, State Senator Tom McGeee and Rep. Donald Wong joined MWRA officials and Saugus officials to mark the completion of the project, which replaced an 8-inch pipeline under the two towns with sections that range from 12 to 36 inches. “I am confident that the conclusion of the Lynnfield/Saugus Pipelines project will eliminate the traffic delays and improve water quality and services for residents, commuters and local businesses in the area” said Senator Tom McGee in an MWRA announcement.
