Craig Stone Leads Local Wrestlers to Sectional Title

The North Reading-Lynnfield combined team recently finished an unbeaten season and won the North Division 3 championship.

The following questions were answered by North Reading-Lynnfield wrestling head coach Craig Stone, who recently led the team to an unbeaten regular season and North Division 3 title. Stone has been a wrestling coach for 28 years, including nine with the co-op team, which he initiated in 2004 after Lynnfield's numbers declined and North Reading's program was dropped in 2001. What has been the key to the Lynnfield-North Reading team's success this year? Our team depth (numbers), talent (we returned 5 sectional place finishers from last year and 23 returning wrestlers with experience), maturity of returning wrestlers (juniors and seniors who impacted far above what I could imagined this year), the impact of a couple of talented freshman, and …

Wrestling Team Following Up On Successful Run

Lynnfield-North Reading Co-op team is already 5-0 and finished in second place in Wakefield Tournament.

The Lynnfield-North Reading high schools wrestling program is going strong. Not only is the squad off to a 5-0 start and a second-place finish in the Wakefield Tournament, but there are 35 students on the team – numbers that bode well for the future of two programs that couldn’t sustain by itself. “Right now we have 22 (wrestlers) from North Reading and 13 from Lynnfield,” said coach Craig Stone. “Together we are comfortable with our numbers and depth across the weight classes. But if we were separate (programs) neither would have depth.” Stone, who has been a wrestling coach for 37 years, started the Lynnfield program in 1977 as a club before moving up to varsity the following year.
