Gazebo Planned for Lynnfield Common Area

Project is in very early stages - Lynnfield Rotary set to provide financial support for materials, local vocational school students would do the work.

Many details remain to be finalized, but a gazebo may be on or near Lynnfield Common within a year. Nan Hockenbury, chair of the Lynnfield Historical Commission and the Lynnfield Historical Society, told Lynnfield Patch Monday that the gazebo was initially proposed several years ago and remains in its very early planning stages. Lynnfield selectmen reportedly voted Monday night to have the project go forward, she added. The Lynnfield Rotary has indicated that it will provide financial support for the project - with the costs primarily limited to the building materials. Students at North Shore Technical High School in Middleton and Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School in Wakefield could do the design and building work, added …

I sincerely hope that a gazebo or any other structure selected to be added to the Town Common area be placed on the opposite side of South Common Street, so as to not detract from our beautiful and traditional Colonial Common.   more ›

Thanks to Lynnfield resident Jill Luders for sending in this great batch of photos from last weekend's Rotary Turkey Trot. The annual event is a 5K road race that serves as a major fundraiser for the Lynnfield Rotary's various service activities.

LHS Key Club Raises $1,000 For UNICEF

The following is an announcement from the LHS Key Club: This Halloween, instead of collecting candy, Lynnfield High School's Key Club went Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF.  The Club was very successful--they raised just over $1,000 which will go to The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT). The Key Club would like to give a big thank you to Lynnfield residents for their very generous donations to this cause. LHS Interact Club Focuses On Community Service Work

Rotary Interact Club at Lynnfield High School started in 2010 to focus on helping the community.

Students at Lynnfield High School have various options if they want to get involved with volunteer work and community service - one of them being the Rotary Interact Club, which is heading into its third school year in town. Town residents likely saw members of the Interact Club this summer organizing the Horribles Parade in mid-July, to name one recent event. According to Baylee Priestley, an incoming LHS junior who will serve as club president this year, members are already planning to participate in the Buddy Walk for muscular dystrophy this October in Wakefield, as well as the Polar Plunge, which is an annual Rotary event that raises funds to fight polio, and a possible Halloween event. Bailey 'Honored And Surprised' By Citizen Of The Year Award

Pastor at Centre Congregational Church named Lynnfield Rotary's Citizen of the Year for community contributions, including organizing 9/11 memorial last fall.

In an email conversation with Lynnfield Patch this week, Reverend Dennis Bailey said that he was "very honored and surprised" to be named the Lynnfield Rotary's Citizen of the Year. Many of Bailey's parishioners at Centre Congregational Church were on hand to see him receive the award at Teresa's in Middleton. Also on hand were Lynnfield Fire Chief Joe Lingel and Deputy Chief Glenn Davis, as well as Katherine Bailey, widow of Ace Bailey, a former Lynnfielder and NHL player who was killed in the 9/11 attacks. Last year's Rotary Citizen of the Year, Lorraine Sacco, was  also in attendance with her husband Gene. They organize Reid's Ride, in memory of their son, Reid Sacco, and just last Sunday raised almost $150,000 for youth cancer research…

Rev. Dennis Bailey Named Lynnfield Rotary's Citizen Of The Year

Pastor of Centre Congregational Church honored for his contributions to the community, including organizing last fall's 9/11 memorial activities.

The Lynnfield Rotary named Reverend Dennis Bailey its Citizen of the Year this week. Bailey, the pastor of the Centre Congregational Church, was particularly honored for his work in organizing the 9/11 memorial activities last fall on Lynnfield Common. "I've got a dream job, in a dream town," said Bailey upon receiving the award. "I'm very fortunate to have so many people who are so encouraging and supportive." Bailey also received a proclamation in honor of his award from the state legislature, which was filed by Lynnfield's two state representatives, Brad Jones, Jr. and Donald Wong. Rotary Golf/Tennis Outing Is June 22

Tennis is now an option in this annual Lynnfield Rotary event.

The following is an announcement from the Lynnfield Rotary Club: Rotary is holding its annual golf outing, and this year they have added tennis to their event, which will be held on Friday, June 22.  The Golf will be held at Reedy Meadow Golf Course in the Center, and the Tennis will be held at Lynnfield Middle School. On Thursday, the Lynnfield Rotary awarded two $1,000 scholarships from its annual Brad Holt Golf Tournament. This year's recipients were Melissa Ogunbona of Lynn Classical High School and Changlais Jeanmary of Lynn English High School.
