Home of the Week

A Large Brick Estate Near Main Street

Each week, Lynnfield Patch takes a look at an interesting and/or distinctive property currently on the market.

Most weeks while doing the Home of the Week column, I resist the temptation to highlight the most expensive places on the market because there can be a huge difference between "expensive" and "interesting and distinctive." Here's an exception that just went on the market at 5 Ashley Court in Lynnfield however. It's an 8,000 square foot estate, described in the listing as "palatial and meticulously maintained." There's a chef's kitchen, a second-story atrium with good natural light, a formal dining room complete with a butler's pantry, a couple of hut tubs, and an entertainment room with a bar. This also happens to be the only real estate listing I've …

As of the end of March, the only Lynnfield foreclosure activity for 2013 was a single foreclosure petition, according to new data from the Warren Group.

Foreclosure activity was almost nonexistent in Lynnfield for the first quarter of 2013, according to recent data from the Warren Group. As of the end of March, only one foreclosure petition had been reported in Lynnfield – with no foreclosure auctions or deeds either. As of the end of March 2011, there had been six foreclosure petitions recorded, with three foreclosure auctions having taken place in town for that period. The Warren Group reported that statewide, foreclosure petitions were down 52% from last year, with 2,080 reported the first quarter of 2013.  "Overall, we're seeing foreclosures drop all over the country, but Massachusetts is exceptional in its reduction. Home of the Week

An American Classic on Half an Acre

Each week, Lynnfield Patch takes a look at a distinctive home on the market in town.

I think some folks are bound to know what I mean when I call this house at 674 Main Street "an American Classic." It's real. That huge porch. The nice big yard. A barn out back. Construction Year: 1900. If there's an apple tree anywhere on the grounds, I like it even more. This is the sort of place that begs for a cold lemonade after you're done mowing the lawn, he waxed whimsically on a late Friday afternoon. It invokes thoughts of past generations and of great holiday gatherings perhaps. But here's what it really reminds me of - It's the sort of house where Ray Bradbury would have set one of his legendary stories in, if that obscure mention makes any sense whatsoever here. So here's a bit more - the living room has a fireplace and a …

Home of the Week

An Interesting Looking House on 1.25 Acres

Each week, Lynnfield Patch takes a look at a distinctive property on the market in town.

Yes, there's always a handful of homes in Lynnfield trading well north of $1 million, and a fair number of them will end up being featured in this column before they find their next owners. Maybe this week's pick just reflects how much I really, really like my space, but 816 Main Street in Lynnfield just sort of jumped out - mainly that well-hedged 1.26 acre lot of land that it comes with for well under $500,000. The 6-room (3 bedroom) house with a patio off the kitchen was built in 1910 and I think it's just got a certain something (give or take the paint color and/or siding).
