The Ship, which has existed in various forms since the 1930s or earlier, is set to reopen its doors later this year. So that invites the question - what other Lynnfield landmark restaurant would you bring back if you could?
As noted in this article earlier today on Lynnfield Patch, The Ship is set to re-open its doors about a year after its previous managers closed the place down. So with that in mind, this is a good opportunity to run a poll and ask some locals - if you could bring back one classic Lynnfield restaurant that is no longer with us, which would it be? And if I forgot to add one in the poll below or if you have something else to add, just make a note of it in the comment box below.

It's a Friday late in the dog days of summer - a good time to ask this baseball question I've been wondering about recently.
When it comes to Boston-area sports, Lynnfield has the distinction of having been home to numerous athletes over the years, particularly some popular members of the Bruins and the Red Sox. However, it's been a long, long time since Carl Yastrzemski allegedly re-sodded his front lawn in Lynnfield with turf from Fenway's outfield - and those glorious days of 2004 and 2007 are starting to feel almost as remote as the long-ago "Impossible Dream" team. So here's the deal. This isn't Florida Marlins country. A lot of us on the North Shore have Red Sox roots that go back three or four generations. I'm told that my grandfather used to be up on a ladder working on his house in Salem back in the 1950s and he'd be yelling at the game as it played on …

This week's poll questions asks locals - which street is the most dangerous when it comes to speeding drivers?
Speeding has long been a top public safety concern in Lynnfield. In recent months, police have stepped up their traffic enforcement activities, and many readers on this website have also weighed in on the issue. Months ago, a past poll asked about the most dangerous intersections in town. This week, let's look at a different angle - which of these heavily traveled Lynnfield streets is most dangerous when it comes to speeding cars? And is there a street that you think should be mentioned? Just say so in the comments box below!

This is one of only four states to ban fireworks sales. Do you think it's time to change that, or not?
This week, some area media outlets have noted that Massachusetts is now just one of four states to ban the sale of fireworks - and one state rep. has reportedly even filed a bill to lift that ban rather than having people simply drive out of state to make their purchases. Fireworks noise complaints are a pretty common entry in the police log this time of year, but many other people wouldn't consider it a July 4th without having a few to shoot off themselves. And heck, you can't even get the really, really good stuff unless you're up for a drive to South Carolina or some place like that. But I digress. With that - what do you think? Should Massachusetts legalize fireworks sales or keep things the way they are? Feel free to comment in the …

In a couple of weeks, a group of paranormal investigators will report on what, if anything, they found Saturday night at Lynnfield's Old Meeting House. But why wait? Let's hear what you think!
Over the weekend, a team of paranormal investigators visited Lynnfield's 1714 Old Meeting House, and a full account of their visit - as well as an interesting historical detail or two - can be found by checking out today's article and photo gallery from the evening at this link. For example, it turns out that on Sunday, May 4, 1777, the Reverend Benjamin Adams, a Lynnfield father of seven, actually died in his pulplit in the Old Meeting House - presumably mid-sermon. In general, the Old Meeting House has played a crucial role in the town's history and character over the past three centuries. If there is going to be a ghost in Lynnfield, this place is an excellent candidate for it. So what do you think - are there ghosts in the Meeting …

Weigh in on this longstanding issue that has been in the local news on and off for going on two years now.
Yesterday on the Lynnfield Patch Facebook page, I said that I would run a poll today asking local residents where they stand on this ongoing impasse with the Lynnfield Conservation Commission and The Fat Cactus. Basically, the situation revolves around a gravel parking area behind the Fat Cactus that was found to violate wetland regulations but which over the course of many months has apparently not been fixed. This week, the conservation commission even voted to reissue its criminal complaint against the restaurant after it failed to send somebody with decision-making authority to the meeting as requested. This article from earlier in the week provides some more background information on the matter. That said - where do you stand on this …

From time to time, Lynnfield Patch asks readers to weigh in on various questions and quality of life issues about town.
In this latest poll question - A couple of major projects, Market Street at Lynnfield and the proposed athletic fields complex, are set to start up in town over the next several years. Back during the early days of planning the Market Street project, this idea was apparently raised but then not pursued. That said, a number of high profile restaurants and one large arcade/entertainment complex are coming to that site anyhow. With some changes set to come to town in the coming years, here's a question that's a bit older than this website - should there be a movie theater in Lynnfield?

From time to time, Lynnfield Patch invites readers to weigh in on an issue affecting the community. Vote in the poll or leave a comment in the boxes below!
In an article that ran today, Lynnfield Patch spoke with Linda Rugato of the Lynnfield Athletic Association about the organization's critical lack of volunteers. However, this is just one town organization currently struggling to maintain a strong future in the face of what is essentially a town-wide shortage of volunteers. With that, register your opinion in this week's poll question!

Thanks for the info on Sam, Julia. I met him once at a party many years ago and thought what a nice guy he is. Alas, I was involved with someone else at the time, lol! If the accident you are talking about was the one where three boys died, I believe it was up further east on Salem St...sort of across from Brook Drive. I enjoy listening in on your and Ernie's reminiscing. You know, I think all of…   more ›
