Lynnfield Fire Chief Announces Plans to Retire

Chief Joseph Lingel has served on the Lynnfield Fire Department for 44 years.

Lynnfield Fire Chief Joseph Lingel informed selectmen in a letter this week that he plans to retire as of August 14, 2013. Lingel became chief last summer after former Chief Tom Bogart retired from that position. Chief Lingel is also the town's emergency management director. In a short letter to Town Administrator Bill Gustus, Lingel stated the following: "Effective August 14, 2013, I will be resigning from my position as Chief of the Lynnfield Fire Department. Effective the same date, I will be retiring from the Lynnfield Fire Department after 44 years of service."

Personnel from Lynnfield and several surrounding communities knocked down attic fire in large brick home before more serious damage could spread through the house.

Personnel from several communities joined the Lynnfield Fire Department Wednesday morning in knocking down a two-alarm blaze at a large brick home on Horseshoe Drive. One firefighter reportedly went to Lahey Clinic with non-life threatening smoke-related injuries, said Lynnfield Fire Captain Michael Feinberg after the fire was extinguished, adding that when firefighters first arrived on the scene, the residents were already out of the dwelling. The fire was first reported around 10:30 a.m. and firefighters spotted smoke coming through the roof when they arrived, Feinberg told area media outlets at the scene. Brief Fire Reported in Fourth Floor Apartment

Lynnfield and North Reading fire departments responded to Lynnfield Commons apartments for report of a fourth floor bathroom fire quickly put out by building's sprinkler system.

A fire reported at the Lynnfield Commons apartments was quickly extinguished by the building's sprinkler system, according to scanner reports. Around 9 p.m. on Sunday, Lynnfield Fire Department personnel responded to the apartment building off Route 1 north for a report of a fire in a fourth floor bathroom. North Reading provided mutual aid with its ladder truck, while Wakefield provided coverage at the Lynnfield station. The fire did not have a chance to spread as it was reportedly soon extinguished by the sprinkler system.

Two Seriously Injured in Main Street Crash

Two-car accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

A serious accident on Main Street in Lynnfield sent two motorists to area hospitals Monday afternoon. Rescue personnel extricated them from their respective vehicles and transported them to area trauma centers. These two images provided by the Lynnfield Fire Department provide a look at the vehicle damage.

Serious Accident Reported on Main Street in Lynnfield

Two car-accident reported around 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Lynnfield Police and Fire personnel reportedly responded to a two-car accident on Main Street near Route 128 on Monday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. According to police scanner reports, two patients were each removed from a vehicle, with one headed to Mass. General Hospital and the other to Lahey Clinic. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Home Saved After Dryer Fire Spreads

Home at 10 Lowell Street in Lynnfield damaged by Tuesday afternoon dryer fire that spread to attic.

Lynnfield firefighters were joined by colleagues from several towns Tuesday afternoon in putting out a house fire at 10 Lowell Street. A report of a house fire in town went out soon after 5 p.m., and in less than an hour it went to a second alarm. The fire itself was put out in relatively short order and there was little visible damage seen from the street on the exterior of the large gray home, except for a hole in the roof. At the scene, Lynnfield Fire Chief Joseph Lingel reported that the homeowners had just had a new dryer delivered, and soon after starting it up, they called to report smoke and fire in the house. It could have been old wiring that caught fire when overloaded by a high draw electric dryer. Or a very clogged vent which when paired with a new, higher power dryer caused the vent clog to catch fire. In other words, a lot of reasons.   more ›

Fire Dept. Reports Approx. Dozen Service Calls During Blizzard

Town officials met last Thursday to prepare storm response. Fire Department reported about a dozen calls for service over three-day weather event.

The following statement on the town of Lynnfield’s storm response was provided to local media outlets by Lynnfield Fire Chief Joseph Lingel: As Emergency Manager Director, a meeting was held at Fire Headquarters on Thursday February 7th at 10 a.m. In attendance were myself, Captain Feinberg and Kenny Burnham, both assistant directors of the emergency management team.
