Kerry Goodwin Photographs The Danforth House

Lynnfield-based professional photographer Kerry Goodwin had a series of photos run last year in the Weekly News. She's got a gallery of more than 200 shots up on Flickr showing the town's most historic house.

Earlier in the week, this website ran an update on the discussion over what to do with Lynnfield's Danforth House. The building is as decayed as it is historic, having played key roles in some of the most formative moments of Lynnfield's history. These days, it is probably best known as the former home of Captain Nathaniel Bancroft, who led one of several groups of Lynnfield Minutemen to fight the British at the Battle of Menotomy in Arlington soon after Lexington and Concord in April, 1775. The building was last used as a nursing home around the 1950s. Whether or not it is saved, it's possible that the land could in the future be used for a new town public safety complex or library. Historic Lynnfield Dwelling Remains at a Crossroads

Lynnfield's historic Danforth House will eventually need some serious assistance if it's to be restored. EIther way, the land on which it sits could be used for several town needs in the coming years.

Lynnfield selectmen have declined to support an effort to place the Danforth House on the National Register of Historic Places, pending a review by town counsel. Specifically, town officials want to be certain that the historic designation will not limit future uses for the land or changes to the structure. As noted in this previous article on Lynnfield Patch, town resident Shelly Lynch has been doing much of the work toward getting the 17th Century house on the national register. The house, located next to Reedy Meadow Golf Course, was home to one of Lynnfield's earliest settlers and also to a captain of the town's Minutemen at the start of the Revolutionary War. All these idea's are nice, but at a huge expense. We've upgraded our schools, and soon we should bring our library, police, and fire facilities up to standard. This also will be an expense. But much talked about, and much needed.This is a perfect location. Town owned, plenty of land in the rear for fields.
