Poor Second Half Buries Pioneers Against North Reading

Despite A Good Start, Pioneers Can't Keep Up With Rivals At Home

One of the best rivalries in Massachusetts high school sports lived up to its billing on Friday night as the Lynnfield Pioneers boys varsity team lost to the visiting North Reading Hornets  52-44. Lynnfield got out to a fast start thanks to an aggressive full court press that created opportunities for the Pioneers and kept the game neck and neck, with North Reading barely coming back to take a one point lead into the half. LHS Started Game On Strong Note "I thought Lynnfield's athleticism really bothered us, it seemed like we were a half step slow, especially in the beginning," said North Reading head coach Joe Casey. "They really controlled the pace of the game in the first half, and I think that took us off guard a bit." But that's when…

Pioneers Embarrassed In Home Opener Against Hamilton/Wenham

Visiting Generals Outpace Lynnfield 65-37 In Season Opener

It was opening night for the 2010-2011 Lynnfield High School boys' basketball season and the Pioneers certainly had a can of something opened up on them in a 65-37 loss to the defending Cape Ann League Small Division Champion Hamilton/Wenham Generals. The visitors opened up on an early 14-4 run, extending their lead to 23 by halftime and going on from there, increasing that lead in a second half that actually saw the Pioneers improve upon their anemic 12 points in the first. Pioneers Solid On Three Point Shots Lynnfield also wasn't able to convert at the charity stripe, going 6-11 versus Hamilton/Wenham's 8-13 tally. In fact, perhaps the only area where the Pioneers equaled the Generals was beyond the three-point-arc, where both teams were…
