North Shore Food Buzz: New Pub, Naumkeag Ordinary, Opens in Salem

When you're looking for a night out and a break from cooking, you might want to know what's new not only where you live, but also in other North Shore communities. Here's our round up of the area's latest food news: In the Witch City, new restaurants are going in on the same corner at Essex and Washington. Already open is Naumkeag Ordinary, a pub that's opened in the previous Cafe Polonia spot. A warm-looking bar greets you as you come in. Round the corner and you'll see the renovations underway at the old A Taste of Thyme. That spot will reopen as Medusa's Cafe. Here's our round up of the area's latest food news: By the end of the year, the North Shore will have a mammoth new shopping and entertainment complex, MarketStreet at Lynnfield. You've probably seen the signs as you drive along 128. Lynnfield Patch recently learned several of the restaurants that will be opening there: McDonald's may boast of "billions and billions served," but their recently-opened Endicott Street location is under-performing. TELL US: Bring Back Happy Hour?

Should happy hour come back to Massachusetts?

Is happy hour coming back to the Bay State? The 28-year-old “happy hour law” now banning Massachusetts bars and restaurants from pouring free, discounted or two-for-one alcoholic beverages in area restaurants may be updated so restaurants can compete with casinos that may one day be in the state. As part of the ban, cities and towns now rule that a beverage must be priced the same for each calendar week and two drinks can only be served per person at a restaurant. In addition, pitchers of alcohol can only be served to two or more people, according to the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission. The ABCC will hold a hearing in Boston on Aug. 21.
