PHOTOS: Classic Cars At The Senior Center

Each year, the Lynnfield Senior Center hosts a classic car show that draws enthusiasts from across the area. Here are some of this year's participants.

Many eras of automotive history were represented Tuesday at the Lynnfield Senior Center's annual classic show, which also serves as a fundraising event for the Friends of the Lynnfield Senior Center. This year's participants featured everything from Model A Fords from the 1920s to a 2012 Nissan Leaf, which will be remembered as one of the first electric vehicles to hit the mass market. This gallery offers a look at the various cars on display Tuesday, and you definitely don't have to be an auto enthusiast to appreciate some of these beauties.

For example, Bill Capistran has contributed numerous photos to this website, including this gallery  of New Hampshire covered bridges he sent in last fall. Lynnfield-based photographer Corinna Spinale, owner of Photography By Corinna, volunteers her time as the group's advisor. In this photo, members paid a recent visit to her studio.

Senior Center Seeks Budget Relief Amid Steady Growth

Center a "victim of its own success," strained in areas ranging from programs to meals to staff and seeking budget relief.

The Lynnfield Senior Center is admittedly a victim of its own success, and is looking to the FY13 budget to bring some relief. Giving the Council on Aging's budget presentation at this week's selectmen's meeting, Senior Center Director Linda Naccara said that this is "definitely the biggest budget in my history that we have requested." However, she proceeded to lay out a number of areas where the center is in need of resources and additional staff hours. One request is for the activities director and receptionist positions to go from 25 to 30 hours per week. "The jobs really cannot be done anymore with those hours," said Naccara, adding that despite steady growth in recent years, the Lynnfield Senior Center manages to do a lot with fewer …

VIDEO: Making Truffles With Tabatha Brennan

Personnel from Sunrise Senior Living gave a truffle-making demonstration just in time for Valentine's Day.

A little bit of chocolate can make any Valentine's Day that much more enjoyable - and on Thursday, some area residents got a lesson on how to make their own treats. Tabatha Brennan and Tracy Carangelo of Sunrise Senior Living stopped by the Lynnfield Senior Center with several pounds of chocolate and other ingredients needed to make several types of truffles. In fact, for such a legendary treat, it seems surprisingly easy to make a basic truffle. Running the demonstration, Brennan melted a couple of pounds of bittersweet chocolate in a double boiler, which uses steam heat to melt the chocolate, protecting against burning. She later whisked a softened pound of cream cheese into the melted chocolate, advising the group that if the melted …

55+ Living in Lynnfield

Take a tour of Lynnfield's Windsor Estates

While I am not exactly the target demographic, I did see a lot that I liked when touring the newest 55+ housing options at Windsor Estates. Windsor Estates is a 55+ gated community with "lavish detail, superior craftsmanship and expected luxuries." It's 44 units built in two distinct styles claim "unmatched construction, style and ambiance." Appropriately located within walking distance of the activity-rich Senior Center on Salem Street, this planned community of modern amenity homes built with traditional architectural elements currently has one duplex complete with left and right side models open for viewing.
