Lynnfield-North Reading wrestlers end dual meet season with a 14-6 record as they now head into the Individual Sectional Tournament
They’ve been near the top all year, so it was no surprise that the Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling team was in the thick of it at the Division III North Dual Meet Sectional Tournament on Saturday in Wakefield, leaving with a second place finish out of the ten team field. The day started with a 53-25 victory of Cape Ann League foe Wilmington, nearly duplicating the score they posted against the Wildcats near the beginning of the season, earning a berth in the semi-finals. The finish was more than Lynnfield-North Reading head coach Craig Stone had expected.
North Andover ran away with the show as usual at this year's Cape Ann League/Northeast Conference Wrestling Championships, the Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling program put in a decent performance, placing six individual wrestlers and finishing 4th out of 13 teams with 106.5 points: 154 points behind North Andover but only 2.5 points behind 3rd place finisher Salem. For head coach Craig Stone, the performance went beyond expectations, and hopes it can lead to bigger things to come. "I was very pleased," said Stone. "According to the seeding, we should have only placed two wrestlers but we got in six. I hope we can continue this momentum." Lynnfield-North Reading Wrestlers seek to make a mark at this weekend's Cape Ann League Championships at Pentucket
For much of this season, the Lynnfield-North Reading wrestling program seemed to be quickly approaching perennial local powerhouse North Andover as the best in the Cape Ann League. As a team, the Scarlet Knights proved that they were still vastly superior with a 68-9 victory over the Black and Gold earlier this week.
