An Evening Of A Cappella

Singers from Lynnfield High School will be among those participating in May 4th event at Wakefield High School.

American audiences are addicted – to listening to one another sing.  It started ten years ago with the American Idol show, then ramped up three years ago when Glee and The Sing-off debuted.  This year we’re mesmerized with The Voice, especially since WHS grad James Massone made it so far in the competition.  On Friday evening, May 4 you’ll have the opportunity to marvel at some other new voices, as an a cappella event showcasing regional high school talent will take place in the new theater space at Wakefield High School.  The event is two-fold, to showcase the students and to raise some funds to help retire the loan which the Center for Performing Arts incurred in order to finish the construction of the new theater. If you’ve watched The …

Lynnfield Resident Makes Music For Major TV Ads

Tom Page makes music scores for Budweiser, Wells Fargo, Adidas and Nike television ads, to name a few.

Lynnfield resident Tom Page, a music supervisor and sound designer, creates music scores that have been heard on TV commercials for Dodge, Nestle, Acura, Nationwide Insurance, and many others. A Subway ad, featuring his work, even played during last year's Superbowl. "A director shoots the film, a film editor cuts it into 30-seconds, and they send the film to me. There’s no sound on it -- at that point. My job is to create the music score, sound effects, add the announcer, and any other audio," Page told Lynnfield Patch in an interview earlier this summer.   Page's work allows him to suggest music or song choices for a commercial, although clients will also frequently just assigned the style of music to add. Besides creating music for TV …

Lynnfield Has New Town Idols

Lynnfield Idol finalists performed at LHS Tuesday, May 24, and the next three Lynnfield Idol '11 winners were crowned.

Katie Nevils (middle school division), Katie Morelli (high school division) and Rich Sokolow (adult division) have been crowned Lynnfield Idol 2011. Nevils, a 6th grader at Lynnfield Middle School, sang "Impossible" by Shontelle, and "Fireworks" by Katie Perry. "I'm relieved. I'm happy that I've made it this far. I'm here to have fun," she said. She watches American Idol all the time, the FOX TV show that Lynnfield Idol is based on, and said Scottie influences her with his nice personality and voice. Nevils almost didn't make it to the preliminary auditions. She was at a soccer game that day, and asked her dad to leave so that she could audition - and she was glad she did. Her friends were contestants, too. Judge Tom Page, whose 30- and 60…

Lynnfield Idol semi-finalists perform; finalists chosen

Lynnfield Idol, a town-wide singing contest, based on the popular TV show "American Idol," held a semi-finals round at Lynnfield High School Monday evening.

Twenty-three Lynnfield residents performed at the semi-finals, and nine advanced to the finals, in this week's Lynnfield Idol competition. Jill Howe Purisky, co-president of the Lynnfield Chorus Parents Association, an organization that supports the LHS choral arts department through volunteering and fundraising, said Lynnfield Idol is a choral arts fundraiser, based on the popular Fox TV singing competition. "Our first Idol was a member of the LHS class of 2007. The first year we only had one senior division. In 2009, we added the junior division. Junior division winner, Katy Morelli, is a senior competitor this year," said Purisky. According to Purisky, there were eight contestants in the Junior Division, 11 contestants in the Senior …
