Lynnfield-North Reading wrestlers end dual meet season with a 14-6 record as they now head into the Individual Sectional Tournament
They’ve been near the top all year, so it was no surprise that the Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling team was in the thick of it at the Division III North Dual Meet Sectional Tournament on Saturday in Wakefield, leaving with a second place finish out of the ten team field. The day started with a 53-25 victory of Cape Ann League foe Wilmington, nearly duplicating the score they posted against the Wildcats near the beginning of the season, earning a berth in the semi-finals. There they met long time Merrimack Valley sectional rival Tyngsboro, who appeared to be in control heading into the home stretch, but thanks to a late forfeit in the 112 pound weight class, the Black and Gold were able to swing a 39-36 victory to face Triton…

The finish was more than Lynnfield-North Reading head coach Craig Stone had expected.
North Andover ran away with the show as usual at this year's Cape Ann League/Northeast Conference Wrestling Championships, the Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling program put in a decent performance, placing six individual wrestlers and finishing 4th out of 13 teams with 106.5 points: 154 points behind North Andover but only 2.5 points behind 3rd place finisher Salem. For head coach Craig Stone, the performance went beyond expectations, and hopes it can lead to bigger things to come. "I was very pleased," said Stone. "According to the seeding, we should have only placed two wrestlers but we got in six. I hope we can continue this momentum." Next up for the Black and Gold is the Dual Meet North Sectional Tournament on Saturday at…

Lynnfield-North Reading Wrestlers seek to make a mark at this weekend's Cape Ann League Championships at Pentucket
For much of this season, the Lynnfield-North Reading wrestling program seemed to be quickly approaching perennial local powerhouse North Andover as the best in the Cape Ann League. As a team, the Scarlet Knights proved that they were still vastly superior with a 68-9 victory over the Black and Gold earlier this week. But as individuals, the wrestlers from Lynnfield and North Reading have a shot to show that they’re among the best in Northeast Massachusetts at this Saturday’s Cape Ann League Wrestling Championships at Pentucket High School. Cape Ann League Championship This Weekend Unlike most youth sports in Massachusetts, high school wrestling consists of both a team season as well as a series of tournaments that focus on individual …

Lynnfield-North Reading Wrestling Program inducts three new members into Lynnfield Wrestling Hall of Fame and climbs to 11-2 thanks to four wins, bringing head coach Craig Stone to 402 wins for his career
Last week was a period for the Lynnfield-North Reading wrestling squad that was somewhat symbolic of a program that has become one of the strongest small school programs anywhere in the state. The Black and Gold recorded a win on Thursday against Marblehead-Swampscott, as well as a quad meet sweep on Saturday against Saugus-Winthrop, Salem and Minuteman, which in itself might have been enough to be called an outstanding week. Stone Hits Major Landmark However, the team’s win on Saturday against Minuteman gave head coach Craig Stone number 400 for his illustrious 35 year career, a mark achieved by only 12 other coaches in the history of Massachusetts High School wrestling. That threshold may still fall short of the 600 plus wins posted by …

Meet also sees three wrestlers enter Lynnfield Wrestling Hall of Fame
Just a day after a major snow storm buried most of Massachusetts, the Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling team decided to continue the trend and bury visiting Marblehead-Swampscott, 48-24. And if the first few matches of the evening were any indication, it was surprising that visitors were able to get as close as they did, with the Black and Gold taking three of the first four matches from two forfeits and a pin three quarters of the way through the first period by 189 pounder Tom Arsenault. It seemed like Lynnfield-North Reading would grab another head-to-head victory in the 103 pound weight division, but Eric Kerr’s 11-0 lead was transformed into a pin by Marblehead-Swampscott sophomore Jake Powell with only 6.1 seconds …

The black and gold defeat Peabody, Watertown and Wakefield to improve as a team to 7-1 on the year.
Is the Lynnfield-North Reading cooperative wrestling team among the best high school wrestling teams on the North Shore? They certainly made a case for that claim on New Year's Eve, grabbing three wins at a quadmeet in Wakefield to bump their team record up to 7-1 on the year. Day Began With Win Over Peabody LNR began their day with by slaughtering Peabody, 58-11. The Tanners forfeited three weight classes and were only able to get one pin, a second period win from 189 pounder T.J Henrik. Meanwhile, Lynnfield-North Reading wrestlers pinned their opponents in each match except for the 112 pound division, which was won 7-3 by LNR's Matt Foss, and in the 171 pound division, which Peabody's Nick Pignoski won convincingly, 18-3. The squad …

Lynnfield and North Reading set to begin their seventh season of cooperative wrestling.
Normally, Lynnfield and North Reading are mortal enemies when it comes to High School sports. But when it comes to Wrestling, the two schools are hitting the mats as partners once again for the 2010-2011 Cape Ann League wrestling season. Last year the joint team performed well, finishing 16-7 in league meets and placing ten wrestlers in the Sectional tournament, as well as two wrestlers that went on to the State tournament. And despite losing ten seniors this year, morale is still high, due in large part to the seventh year of what seems to be the now permanent cooperation between the two rivals. "There's good team morale and cohesiveness," said Lynnfield/North Reading wrestling coach Craig Stone. "The rivalry between the two schools aside…
