Local Food Pantries: How You Can Help Or Receive Help

Neighboring food pantries share how you can serve -- or be served -- this holiday season.

The Blessing Room, Calvary Christian Church, 47 Grove St., Lynnfield: The Blessing Room currently serves about 50 people in need with non-perishables, diapers as well as gently used and new clothing. Many recipients are unemployed, disabled, elderly, or unable to work. Duo Treks To Africa For Missions Trip

Pastor Timothy P. Schmidt and Charles Rukwaro, of Calvary Christian Church, Lynnfield, took a two-week trip to Africa.

Charles Rukwaro, of Peabody, had his dream come true last month. He and Senior Pastor Timothy P. Schmidt, of Calvary Christian Church, took a missions trip to Nairobi, Kenya from June 20, to July 8. Rukwaro, who moved from Nakuru, Kenya to the U.S. in October 2008, translated Swahili to English at a pastor's conference and was Schmidt's aide during the missions trip. In Lynnfield, Rukwaro is an intern, where he teaches a Sunday school empowerment class on the Holy Spirit, leads a mid-week home care group in Peabody, and oversees other care group's Bible studies.  Newly-appointed Pastor Stephanie Clark, Christian education and ministry to women, appreciates Rukwaro's teaching aspects. "His class teaches that in times of emptiness, the Holy …

Group Travels To Haiti For Relief Efforts

Calvary Christian Church in Lynnfield took a missions trip to Haiti this summer.

Nine Calvary Christian Church members, led by children's pastor and church ministries administrator Jamie Booth and youth pastor Clark Clervois, and 10 Texan church members, trekked to Haiti in June for two weeks to assist in the relief efforts, following the devastating earthquake last year. The volunteers spent June 26-July 2 helping to rebuild the country. Joe, a participant on his first missions trip, considers this trip to be the most important and meaningful endeavor he's ever been involved in. "Two things come to mind that I got out of this trip: First, encouragement, seeing other Christians, and our families, who handled things at home in our absence, serve the Kingdom unselfishly," he stated, "Second, friendships, both in our …
