Donation Will Benefit Senior Center's Computer Classes

Lynnfield Rotary donates $1,700 for technology at the Senior Center.

On Tuesday, representatives from the Lynnfield Rotary Club visited the to present a $1,700 donation that will be used to boost its technological offerings.

One thing the donation will pay for is a new iPad, which will be used in the center's computer classes.

For about six years now, volunteers Jack and Geri Bittner have been providing one-on-one instruction in basic computer skills at the Senior Center. However, up to this point they had been using their own laptops to teach these classes.

Jack Bittner explained that many of the seniors who take a computer class are interested in just learning basics such as sending and receiving email and photos, web surfing, and using social media sites like Facebook. With that in mind, the iPad will be particularly useful for these classes.

The senior center also currently owns two desktop computers and hopes to use the Rotary's donation to also acquire two new laptops with locks and a printer/scanner.

The Bittners offer the computer classes on Mondays between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. and Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The fee is $7 per class, which is donated to the Lynnfield Senior Center.
