Wakefield Skater Making His Bid For Olympic Spot

Stephen Carriere is among those competing this weekend in Boston for one of the few spots on the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team.

Wakefield resident Stephen Carriere will be competing this week in Boston for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating team at Sochi next month.

Stephen Carriere is a 24 year old Wakefield resident and Melrose native who has competed in numerous high-level skating events in recent years.

However, an article on the Boston 2014 website by the U.S. Figure Skating Association notes that Carriere missed the 2010 championships in part because of injury

According to the above linked article, Carriere started skating around age 5 while growing up in Wakefield, and moved back north to train in Boston, from Delaware, at the end of 2010. “How could you not want to compete? It’s so exciting. What happens, happens," he was quoted as saying by U.S. Figure Skating.

As noted last winter in this article on Wakefield Patch, Carriere was 10th in the championship men’s free skate at the 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Omaha.
