Runners Showing Their Support, Locally and Nationally

Some local runners report that they are leaving from the gazebo on Lake Quannapowitt Monday at 6 p.m. as part of the #BostonStrong group runs going on across the country today.

Local runners who want to show their support for Boston Marathon bombing victims can join other runners tonight at 6 p.m. at the gazebo on Lake Quannapowitt.

The runners, many of whom write the weekly Parent Yap column on Wakefield Patch, were inspired by a blogger who is organizing a #BostonStrong event for runners in San Francisco, and who has invited others to do the same in their towns.

Julie Keysor noted that the Wakefield run "is a loosely organized event." However, those who would like more information can email her at jjkeysor@gmail.com.

So far, people in more than 100 other cities and towns across America are participating in these runs on Monday.

“I feel like I need to do something. Something more than a donation. Something more than a blog post or a photo or a graphic,” wrote Brian Kelley on his Pavement Runner blog. “I’m inspired by the community and how we have come together and shown our support, shed our tears, and expressed our fears.”
