Pioneers Second to One in Division 4 Basketball

Lynnfield High School fell to Bishop Connolly, 65-62, on the hardwood of TD Garden in the state title game on Tuesday.

Lynnfield High School head coach Scott McKenzie's charges lost the Division 4 state championship game on Tuesday afternoon on the hardwood of Boston's TD Garden. But that wasn't the loss fresh in his mind.

The Pioneer mentor said he was more upset for the three seniors that will leave his team following the defeat, which came by a 65-62 margin against Bishop Connolly.

McKenzie's charges trailed by double digits but eventually took a 37-36 lead after three quarters before Bishop Connolly used a 15-4 run to take control of the game.

Adam Buchanan led the Pioneer attack with 19 points, Patrick Kearney chipped in 15 points and Conor Sullivan added 10 points in defeat.

"This is a time for the players to shed some tears. As a coach, I still hjaven't even thought about the fact that we lost. I'm looking at the three seniors that I'm goign to be losing from the program and it has nothing to do with their ability to play. Personally they mean a lot to me individually ... I'm more upset losing them as opposed to losing this basketball game. How can you be any coach, win or lose, and not be proud?"
