Lynnfield Man Running Fifth Boston Marathon for Cancer Research

Lynnfield resident Michael DiSilvio, 50, reports that he will run his fifth Boston Marathon to support the American Cancer Society

Last spring, Lynnfield Patch spoke with town resident Michael DiSilvio as he was preparing to run his fourth Boston Marathon for cancer research in honor of his late mother.

Not counting this latest marathon, DiSilvio, 50, has already raised at least $20,000 for the American Cancer Society.

DiSilvio has announced that he will be at the starting line this Monday for the 2013 Boston Marathon - and he's hoping to raise at least $5,000 this time. Below is the full text of his announcement:

"I can’t believe another year has gone by. In the hopes of raising money for the American Cancer Society I am planning on running The Boston Marathon again this year.

Your response over the years has been amazing.  I am back to ask that you donate again.  You can sponsor me per mile (26.2) or choose a lump some of any amount.

If I can raise $5,000 this year it will bring my total donations to just over $25,000!

A secondary goal I set out after running my first Boston Marathon was to run 5 of them by the age of 50.  The good news is I am on track.  The bad news is I’m 50.  I need all the motivation I can get and your donations help.

30 years ago I lost my beloved Mother to this awful disease and have since supported this cause in any way I can.  Just about everyone you talk to has a personal story and is interested to learn how they can help.

This year the Boston Marathon is on Monday April 15th.  If you are interested in sponsoring me I'll put one foot in front of the other for a few hours, you just write the check!   I'd appreciate all you can do.

If you are interested in donating please make your checks payable to THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY and send them to me at:

Michael DiSilvio

72 Pine Hill Road

Lynnfield, MA 01940

I will be forwarding all donations that I receive to them on April 26th.

Once the American Cancer Society receives your check they will forward you the paperwork that allows you to claim this money as a 2013 charitable donation."
