Karavetsos Sr. "Couldn't Be Happier For These Kids"

Two Lynnfield High School Class of '85 grads have sons playing on the 2012 Division 3A Super Bowl-bound team.

With an eye on this weekend's MIAA Division 3A Super Bowl game, I inquired around town to try to find some photos, articles, or old news clippings about past LHS football teams that made championship bids.

A visit to the Lynnfield High School Library on Thursday found a couple of yearbooks from the mid-1980s - and found back in 1985 was a great Lynnfield story angle waiting to happen. Several photos of that year's LHS football team revealed a familiar name - Mike Karavetsos - the father of the current LHS captain and quarterback with the same name.

Karavetsos, Sr., a member of the LHS Class of '85, played defensive end for the team, and currently works for Hood. He is also a former coach for Lynnfield youth football who fondly remembers coaching many of the current LHS players, including his son, when they were youngsters.

He also noted that one of his former teammates, Bob Kramich, another Lynnfield resident from the LHS Class of '85, is the father of current team wide receiver/defensive back Matt Kramich.

"I couldn't be happier for these kids and what they accomplished... They came and they surprised everyone," Karavetsos, Sr. told Lynnfield Patch in a phone conversation on Thursday.
