Before Bombing, Six Lynnfielders Were Able to Finish Boston Marathon

Terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon finish line brought race to an abrupt and tragic halt about 4:09 into the race. Sixteen Lynnfielders were registered runners, six finished before marathon was stopped.

Before the 2013 Boston Marathon was cut short by a deadly terrorist attack Monday afternoon, six registered Lynnfielders were able to finish the race – and all of the town’s 16 registered runners made it past the halfway mark.

The bombs exploded near the finish line just over four hours into the marathon, killing three and wounding at least 140.  The race was halted almost immediately afterward, diverting thousands of runners who were still making their way toward the finish.

As noted in articles in the weeks and months leading up to the marathon,  Lynnfielders Tracy Ellsworth and Janice Corkhum ran to raise funds for Boston Children’s Hospital, while Michael DiSilvio ran in his fifth Boston Marathon, raising funds for the American Cancer Society.
