“We have been lucky in past years to attract both novice and seasoned runners from our own and other area communities, who come together to support the athletic programs at Lynnfield High School,” said Neil Weidman, LHS Co-Athletic Director.  “It is a fun—and a little bit of a competitive—event that has been a tradition in our town since 1967.”

In addition to awarding several athletic scholarships to graduating seniors each year, the LAA provides other financial support by providing things like uniforms, athletic equipment, and the letter jackets, pins, and trophies given out during the year to student athletes.

A total of 38 awards will be given out in a variety of categories, including first- and second-place trophies for men and women in a number of different age groups ranging from 10 and under to 70 and older, as well as special recognition of the event’s overall winners.

“There is a place for every member of the community in our race, but this year, we hope to encourage younger members to participate by adding even more youth awards,” Coach Weidman notes.  “These are the young people who will become the future athletes or are already student athletes at Lynnfield High School.”  The event features an awards ceremony, a DJ, a raffle and more.

Wakefield Cooperative Bank is again generously serving as the event’s major sponsor, with supporting sponsorship from Giugliano Corporation, Greater Lynn Senior Services, Moynihan Lumber, Northrup Associates, and The Savings Bank.  “We are so grateful that many of our sponsors have already committed or recommitted to supporting this event,” Linda Rugato, one of the race organizers, says.

The group is still seeking additional business sponsors.  For more information, please contact Linda Rugato at lynnfieldathleticassociation@gmail.com or 781-258-6447.  Sponsor logos will appear on all race materials including t-shirts and support will also be acknowledged in local newspapers and the 2011/2012 athletic program booklets.
