Showdown in Waltham

The Saugus-Lynnfield Stars entered a packed Veterans Arena to face off against the Waltham Mites. Joseph Soares led his team into battle with a quote from one of our most respected US Presidents, Harry S. Truman, "It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit". These kids know exactly what that means and continue to play as a team. They may be a tight knit group but they had no problem welcoming newcomer Patrick Spychalski. After tearing up the WAP division, Patrick was called up to the big leagues to fill a roster spot. With three forward lines and two sets of D, they gave it everything they had against a tough Waltham team. The first line of Joseph Soares, brother Jonathan and James Glowacz used their strength to outwork their opponent and wear them down. The second line of Abigail Travers, Cam Sullivan and Stevie Migliero tore it up tonight also. Cam won almost every faceoff for his wings. Stevie was flying around, getting his nose into every situation. Nothing could stop him! The extra hustle tonight earned him a game puck. His wing counterpart, Abi, was also in an aggressive mood tonight. On one play she almost lifted the Waltham goalie off the ice in an attempt to dig a loose puck free. Abi worked so hard tonight that she also received a game puck. The third line of Mike Murphy, Timmy Sullivan and Patrick Spychalski showed off some of their elite skill with some creative stickhandling. Several breakaways by this line were stopped at the last minute by some quick Waltham backchecking. The Stars' D-men were pillars tonight. Jimmy Driscoll and Dion Sacca just wouldn't give an inch to the other team. Jimmy must have been closely watching the Bruins' D-man Krug closely because he looked like a carbon copy of him. Swinging in low to fire in two tonight, Jimmy played a great two way game. Their other D partners, Brendan Heffron and Anthony Grabau worked their tails off tonight also. Anthony never gives up on a play and has become a reliable Stars defensman. Try holding Heffron back. It's not easy! He is a go, go, go hockey player. He did hold his own on D tonight but it's obvious that his passion lies in putting the puck in the net. Soon Brendan, soon! I think we all now know what Martin Brodeur looked like when playing as a mite...Jack Glowacz. Jack stood on his head tonight, making some unbelievable saves, keeping his team in the game. Nothing can keep this team down. Not a tough game vs. Waltham, not even the waitresses at Bertuccis. They are a high energy group and will continue to put in the effort every game and every practice.
