Afternoon Matinee

The Mite A Stars fought through an afternoon blizzard and headed into Lawrence Valley Forum to face off against Wakefield. This hardy group of kids and parents braved dangerous conditions to put a team on the ice. Kicking it off with a great speech from Tommy Lasorda was Anthony Grabau, "The difference between the possible and the impossible lies in a person's determination." This team is definitely a determined bunch with tons of energy! With Jack Glowacz centering wings Timmy Sullivan and Brendan Heffron there was bound to be some scoring. Jack got it going with a nice rush up the middle, jamming it home for his first of two today. His linemates were not to be denied. Heffron would find the five hole after some excellent corner work from Glowacz and Sullivan. Timmy used some of his moves to sift through the Wakefield defenders and fire a shot on. The rebound would bounce to Heffron who put a tape to tape pass on Timmy's stick. Sullivan sent it home with a nice backhand. Patrick Spychalski centered the second line between Joseph Soares and Dion Sacca. Patrick dug the puck loose for a streaking Soares. Soares would accelerate away from the pack and put this one under the Wakefield goalie's arm. Joseph would again find the back of the net after Sacca sent him up the middle with a sweet feed. Mike Murphy rounded out the starting fowards today. Mike was flying around everywhere and after showing his knack for breaking up plays swapped up positions with defenseman James Glowacz. The move paid off. Murphy stopped a Wakefield wing cold and sent Glowacz in alone who snuck one under the outstretched leg of the Wakefield goalie. Murphy joined a Stars' defense who is coming into their own. With Dion Sacca in the box for tripping they would be tested. Cam Sullivan and Jimmy Driscoll make up a fearsome tandem and passed the test with flying colors. They keep providing a solid defense and supply the pucks to get the offense going. Anthony Grabau continues to use his natural ability and hustle to break up plays all over the ice. Teamed up with Murphy for the second half of the game, these two provided excellent support in front of goalie Jonathan Soares. Soares saw a lot of rubber today and never got flustered. He squared up to every shot and made it difficult for anyone on Wakefield to get the biscuit in the basket. For his unbelievable performance today, Jonathan earned the game puck. So with Stevie Migliero enjoying the sun and Abigail Travers showing Obama how to run the country, the Stars knew they needed to step up their game today. They certainly did that with a big 7-5 win over Wakefield. This incredible season is winding down but this team's energy certainly hasn't. Waltham may be a little nervous with this group coming in next.
