School Committee Approves Jane Tremblay as Next Lynnfield Superintendent

Committee voted to approve Tremblay, current Summer Street School principal, in Friday vote.

The Lynnfield School Committee voted Friday afternoon to approve Jane Tremblay as the next superintendent of schools.

Tremblay, the current principal at Summer Street School, will take over from Superintendent Thomas W. Jefferson on July 1, 2014 upon expiration of his contract.

In a brief conversation with Lynnfield Patch, School Committee Chair Dorothy Presser noted that Tremblay was the lone internal candidate for the position and had "fit the profile very well" at recent community forums where residents discussed what they were looking for in their next superintendent. If the committee had not decided in favor of Tremblay, Presser added that the next step would have been to begin an outside search.

Last year, Tremblay received the Thomas C. Passios Award, naming her the Massachusetts elementary school teacher of the year.

The School Committee announced in July it would not seek to renew Jefferson's contract, which began in 2011.
