LHS Boys Varsity Soccer Team Wins On Senior Day

Upperclassmen rally squad to defeat Triton, 2-1.

On Friday afternoon, the Lynnfield varsity boys’ soccer team celebrated Senior Day.  The Pioneers competed in their last home game of the season against the visiting Triton Regional High School Vikings.  Despite being held scoreless in the first half, the Pioneers won the game in a thrilling 2 – 1 contest.

During halftime, each senior soccer team member presented their parents with flowers and a picture was taken of each family.

The visiting team scored the first goal of the game.  After taking the lead, the Vikings locked in defensively.  For most of the game, Lynnfield played with one less player.  Junior forward Stephen Carangelo was forced to leave the game because of a red card violation.  Despite the disadvantage, the Pioneers kept the offensive pressure on the Viking defense throughout the game.  The Vikings led 1 – 0 at halftime.

In the second half, Lynnfield scored twice.  The Pioneers were led by seniors Reis Van Putten, Marco Addonizio, Patrick DeRosa, and Jacob Atkinson.  Addonizio scored on a penalty kick after a Triton player was called for a handball inside the goalie box.  In the waning moments of the game, Atkinson answered the call, and scored on a close shot to the net.  Atkinson’s goal put the Pioneers ahead 2 – 1.

Other seniors on the Lynnfield team who were recognized at halftime were: Andreas Armenis, Brian Cullen, Peter Franchi, George Levantakis, Kyle Protasowicki, and Christopher Scangas.
