District Bids Farewell To Retiring Teachers, Personnel

End of latest school year brings some retirements.

The end of the current school year doesn't just mean that it's time to say farewell to the graduating seniors. Some of the district's long-serving employees are also retiring, and members of the school committee honored them at Tuesday night's meeting.

Michele Annino, who has worked in the main office at Lynnfield High School since 1974, was the first to come up. "She is truly the face of Lynnfield High School," said School Committee Chair Dorothy Presser.

Also retiring was Summer Street School 1st Grade Teacher Donna Blake, who has worked in the Lynnfield district since 1993, followed by Nick Iudiciani, the head of the LHS English Department. "Many students felt he was the best English teacher they ever had," said Presser, also noting that Iudiciani had been credited with improving the writing skills of numerous students over the years. Up next was Barbara Savage, kindergarten teacher at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School.

Grayce Kushmerek, LMS Computer Technology teacher who worked for Lynnfield schools since 1974, was unable to attend Tuesday night's meeting.

Superintendent Robert Hassett was also on hand for his final meeting before retirement, and he was presented with a plaque to mark the occasion. Last week, colleagues from the town, the school district and elsewhere also honored Hassett at a retirement party at Spinelli's.
