Concussion Education Program Tonight at Middle School

Sports Legacy Institute Community Educators (SLICE) presentation is geared towards youth in grades 4 to 12.

The Lynnfield  Health and Wellness Committee is pleased to sponsor an important concussion education program, SLICE (Sports Legacy Institute Community Educators) for youth in grades 4-12, parents, coaches and interested community members on Wednesday, March 20th at 7 p.m. The program will be held at the Lynnfield Middle School auditorium.

This fun, interactive program will be presented by medical students from Boston University School of Medicine who are part of the Sports Legacy Institute Community Educators (SLICE).  A former Boston University women’s lacrosse player who was forced to stop playing due to repeated concussions will be joining us as well to share her personal story.

The curriculum is geared toward student athletes in grades 4-12, but parents, coaches and interested community members are welcome and encouraged to attend.  Coaches should consider bringing the team! The program has been funded through a grant from the Boston Bruins Foundation and is being offered free of charge.

The Lynnfield Middle School 5th Grade Destination Imagination Team will also be providing informative educational materials and prevention resources on concussions. The have been researching the impact on concussions in youth locally and will be providing statistics on some of the current safety measures implemented by Lynnfield youth sports leagues and the Lynnfield Public Schools to educate and prevent head injuries in youth sports.
