Tom Terranova and Phil Crawford Elected New Lynnfield Selectmen

Town had two competitive selectmen's races this year. Two school committee incumbents appear to have won re-election as well.

Lynnfield voters elected Tom Terranova and Phil Crawford as the newest members of the Board of Selectmen on Monday night.

Terranova, a certified public accountant and Lynnfield Recreation Commission co-chair, defeated Bob MacKendrick by a 950-881 margin, for a three-year term. MacKendrick was first elected to the board of selectmen in 2004 and before that was an assistant fire chief and fireman in town.

"It's been a pleasure working with you," MacKendrick said to his colleagues as the new selectmen prepared for what would be a brief first session. "I don't like losing, on the other hand I don't mind retiring kind of for real."

"I'm very happy that the town came out and voted their opinion. I'm proud of it and honored by it. I will do my very best to honor all the issues raised in my campaign," Terranova told Lynnfield Patch after being sworn in as selectman. "I hope to work very hard for this town."

Crawford, the vice chair of the finance committee, beat Tom Kennedy, who was making his first bid for public office, by an 1,118-693 margin. "I just want to thank the voters. I appreciate the support, I'll do my best to represent their views and wants and needs," said Crawford.

"I hope (Crawford) does great, and I will help him out with whatever he needs," Kennedy told Lynnfield Patch, adding that he's "glad for Tom (Terranova)" and that running for office "was a good experience." He didn't rule out the idea of running for office at some point in the future, but didn't say that he necessarily plans to either.

Crawford was elected to complete the one year remaining on the late Al Merritt's term.
