New Eatery Licensed To Open In Lynnfield

Selectmen approve common victualer's license for Christine Picariello of Christine's Cafe and Confections.

As early as next week, Lynnfield residents may notice a new proprietor in the restaurant site at 168 Salem Street currently occupied by .

At this week's selectmen's meeting, Christine Picariello was in attendance as officials approved her common victualer's license. Picariello explained that she has spent several decades in catering and other related fields, and plans to offer breakfast and lunch with an emphasis on baked goods.

Selectmen indicated that the license was contingent at the time upon approval from the board of health.

Over the past couple of meetings, selectmen also had another request for a common victualer's license taken off the table by an entrepreneur who has apparently been planning to open a roast beef place on Broadway.

-In other business at this week's meeting, Town Administrator Bill Gustus noted that so far, there are no articles set for the fall town meeting outside of the usual budget ones. The town meeting is on Monday, October 17th.

-Selectmen approved the use of town streets and lots for several events, ranging from an upcoming LHS sports car wash fundraiser to a local block party and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Great Strides Walk, currently scheduled for May 20, 2012.

- Selectmen paid tribute to two recently deceased town residents - former Selectman Joe Moran and Bruce Kenison, who was the Lynnfield representative to the MWRA. Both men were hailed as devoted public servants who lent their considerable talents and energy to the town.

- Selectman Bob MacKendrick provided a rundown of the activities planned for Lynnfield on Sunday, September 11th. He noted that about 2,975 U.S. flags currently adorn the field near the history house in memory of each individual killed on 9/11. The service of remembrance starts at 8:30 a.m. Sunday and the full list of activities can be found on the Lynnfield 911 page.

"We look forward to this being a day of remembrance, condolence, sorrow, but also of celebration," said MacKendrick.

- Praised town employees and local utilities for their efforts in preparing for Hurricane Irene, which passed further to the west of the North Shore last week. "DPW was incredibly prepared," said Selectman Arthur Bourque. "We had a plan in place for almost every contingency that could possibly take place." Selectmen also noted that the vast majority of town residents had been without power for only one or two hours, while some  nearby communities suffered outages that lasted for days.
