March Set To Come In Like A Lion

Winter weather advisory in effect for region until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Area residents can expect a return to wintry weather between now and Thursday evening, although forecasters still seem a bit divided on how much snow we can actually expect.

The National Weather Service, which has a winter weather advisory in place until 6 p.m. Thursday, reports that the snow is expected to mostly start after 3 p.m. Wednesday and is expected to last until early Thursday evening.

The NWS overnight forecast calls for accumulation of 2 to 4 inches in Lynnfield, followed by another inch on Thursday. Further complicating the morning commute, patchy fog is also possible in the area, as well as a wind of up to 16 mph. Tonight brings 100% chance of precipitation, according to the forecast, while tomorrow has a 90% chance.

However, the forecast on Weather.com calls for significantly more snow - as much as 8 to 12 inches by the time the storm system passes through later Thursday.

While this particular weather incident is expected to wrap on Thursday, the weekend now appears to be offering more potential for wintry mix conditions. According to the NWS, rain and sleet are possible overnight Friday, as well as showers on Saturday into the night before partly cloudy conditions and temperatures in the mid to high 40s return on Sunday.
