Local Aid Work Earns Jones Legislator Of Year

The following is an announcement from the office of Rep. Brad Jones, Jr.

House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones, Jr. (R-North Reading) has been named a 2011 “Legislator of the Year” by the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA). 

Citing his many accomplishments throughout the previous legislative session, the MMA named Representative Jones a Legislator of the Year as a result of his amendment to the Fiscal Year 2012 budget sending $65 million in unrestricted general government aid back to cities and towns across Massachusetts.

“This is a tremendous honor and I thank the Massachusetts Municipal Association and their Board of Directors for bestowing this distinction upon me” said Representative Jones.  “As a former local official, I understand the real meaning of this award is at the local level. We must remain cognizant that municipalities and local taxpayers often bear the financial burden during this tough economic time, and it remains one of my top priorities to provide our cities and towns with as much help as we can.”

Jones served on the North Reading Board of Selectman for six years including three as its Chairman.  In addition he served nearly four years on the town’s Finance Committee as well as four years on the local Housing Authority.

The MMA is a non-profit, nonpartisan association that provides advocacy, training, publications, research and other services to Massachusetts cities and towns. The MMA is the only state-wide organization that brings municipal officials together to establish unified policies, to advocate these policies, and to ensure the effective delivery of services to community residents.

The award ceremony will take place during the MMA’s Annual Meeting and Trade Show on January 21, 2012 at the Sheraton Hotel/Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
