Lawmakers Announce $1,000 State Grant For Recycling

Representatives Bradley H. Jones, Jr. (R-North Reading) and Donald Wong (R-Saugus), along with Senator Katherine Clark (D-Melrose), in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), recently announced that the town of Lynnfield has been awarded a municipal grant under the DEP’s Sustainable Material Recovery Program totaling $1,000.

Announced by the DEP as part of a statewide funding initiative, the grant will help to support recycling, compost, reuse and source reduction activities that will increase diversion of municipal solid waste and household hazardous waste from disposal.

“I am pleased the Department of Environmental Protection has afforded Lynnfield the opportunity to enhance the town’s waste reduction by adopting more sustainable methods of waste disposal.” said Representative Jones. “This funding will help continue the ongoing sustainability initiative within Reading and continue the mission of DEP.” 

The DEP works to maximize waste reduction, recycling and composting, and ensure the safe management, reuse and disposal of solid and hazardous waste. Through state-wide programs, they continue to provide funding to Massachusetts cities and towns to establish and develop sustainable initiatives.

“Despite the present suffering of Massachusetts’s economy, we are grateful to have received this grant from the DEP,” said Representative Wong. “I look forward to seeing the positive effects this program will have on the town of Lynnfield and the continued success of future any and all DEP initiatives.

“The Department’s assistance with the recycling program is a win for the state and for Lynnfield,” said Senator Clark. “The town has shown a true commitment to responsible waste disposal and deserves this recognition from DEP.”
