Jones: House Vote 'Unfortunate Turning Point' For Taxpayers

House Republican Leader and state rep. for Lynnfield criticizes this week's vote on $500 million in tax increases to fund transportation needs.

House members voted 97-55 this week in favor of a scaled-back version of Governor Deval Patrick's transportation funding bill - and lawmakers from both parties have been expressing concern about its potential impact on taxpayers.

Rep. Brad Jones, the state rep. for Lynnfield who also serves as House Republican Leader, cited nearly $500 million in tax increases in the House bill on Tuesday, calling it "an unfortunate turning point for our state’s hardworking taxpayers."

"Unfortunately, despite the House Republican Caucus’ proposal of an alternative transportation finance plan – free from any statewide tax increases – the residents of Massachusetts are on the verge of having to pay for the third major tax increase since Governor Patrick was sworn into office," said Jones.
