IRS List Shows Numerous Nonprofits Losing Tax Exempt Status

Law automatically revokes status for groups that fail to file paperwork for three consecutive years.

The IRS website runs a list of groups that have had their tax-exempt status automatically revoked for not filing an annual information return or notice for three consecutive years. This is in keeping with a federal law passed about five years ago.

Below is a list of the Lynnfield organizations that were listed as losing their tax-exempt status. For all of the Lynnfield-based organizations, the date of revocation was listed as May 15, 2010. This also means that donations to these organizations will not be tax deductible anymore.

Nationwide, tens of thousands of nonprofit groups were affected by this policy change - although many are not actually active at this point. A full, state-by-state list can be found here.
