Fields Committee Backs Including Skate Park in Plan

Young Lynnfielders may have a skate park as part of the proposed recreational facilities upgrades in town in the coming years.

Members of the fields committee are set to report on their recommendations to Lynnfield selectmen at Monday night’s meeting, with a focus on new athletic fields at the middle school and the high school, as well as a rail trail that would help link it all together.

In the report posted this week on the town website, members also wrote that “late in our exploratory work, the committee received written correspondence from two young Lynnfield residents. The letter asked us to consider the creation of a skate board park in Lynnfield.”

The two students who suggested the skate park, Johannes Elliot and Nathan Frates, were both seven graders at LMS last year and in their letter they cited numerous benefits a skate park would offer, from getting young people away from their electronic screens to keeping them out of trouble and physically fit.

“The committee agrees that a skate park and a roller rink would provide a recreational outlet for younger participants and would suggest that it be included in the middle school plans since many of the participants are middle school aged,” wrote the committee members.
