Donated Zelkova Tree Planted at LMS

Tree donor Steven Maniatis has two granddaughters in Lynnfield schools, is a middle school math teacher in Lynn.

On Tuesday June 11 the winner of this year's Count the Cones contest, Steven Maniatis, the Lynnfield Tree Committee, and Tree Warden Dennis Roy dedicated the new Zelkova tree planted at the Lynnfield Middle School. The Town sponsored this contest as part of its annual Arbor Day celebration. Steven is the gracious winner who has donated this tree to be planted at a public location for all of Lynnfield to admire.

In an email to Lynnfield Patch, Maniatis added the following note to town residents:

"With both of my granddaughters attending Lynnfield schools, Katie in High School and Lauren entering Middle School in the fall, I have been fortunate to be able to share some great moments with the girls through their school connections.  Whether it was as an appraiser for one of their Destination Imagination teams or as a patron watching a school play (Loved Legally Blonde) there has always been something I've taken notice of, the number of hours volunteers, parents, relatives and friends must have donated to make these things come together.

The decision to donate the tree back to the Town of Lynnfield was done without any hesitation on my part.  As a Middle School teacher in Lynn, 8th Grade Math, I know all to well the unique challenges students face as they continue their transitions toward their teen years.  Let this simple gesture say, "You matter" to the present and future students of Lynnfield Middle School as they pass this way on their journey."
