Cyclical Inspection Program Starting In Town

State law requires communities to inspect all properties, including tax-exempt ones, at least once every nine years.

The Town of Lynnfield has been sending letters to residents informing them that state-required property inspections under the Cyclical Inspection Program will occur this year.

Letters from the Board of Assessors note that the state requires a community to inspect all of its properties, including tax-exempt ones, at least once every nine years.

"The collection and maintenance of current and accurate property inventory data is a critical element in the development of uniform, fair market values," states the letter.

Inspections are conducted by the Lynn-based Patriot Properties. Residents can expect their personnel to carry visible identification. They will also ask owners for permission to do exterior and interior inspections, and to take exterior measurements of structures including buildings, sheds, pools and patios. If a resident denies permission for an inspection, the inspector will need to rely on estimates - and if an owner is not home when an inspector calls, they will receive an invitation to call the assessor's office to schedule an inspection.

Residents with further questions or concerns can call the assessor's office at 781-334-9450.
