Census: Lynnfield Population Now 11,596

Recently released data sees net uptick of 54 residents since 2000.

New data from the 2010 U.S. Census shows that Lynnfield's population now stands at 11,596 – marking a modest increase from the 11,542 that was recorded in 2010.

Of the current population, 8,659 residents are over the age of 18.

A further look at the demographic information finds that 94.7 percent of the town is categorized as white, with Asians accounting for 3.3 percent of the population, 0.5 percent African Americans, and 1.7 percent Latino or Hispanic. Five residents identified themselves as Native American, while 0.4 percent said they were some other race, while 1 percent identified themselves as two or more races.

Also, the latest census indicated 4,354 housing units in Lynnfield for 2010, 175 of which were said to be vacant.

This particular set of data was sent to state lawmakers early this week for use in the coming redistricting process. More detailed information will be available in the near future. However, a look at some separate census data may provide a glimpse of demographic data to come.

American Community Survey, 2005-2009

The Census also collects American Community Survey five-year estimates, with the latest survey running from 2005-2009.

In that set of data, the Census Bureau reports that 16.3 percent of Lynnfield's population was above the age of 65 at that point, while 4.9 percent were under the age of 5. Also, 51.4 percent of town residents were male in that survey, and 48.6 percent female. At the national level, 49.3 percent of the population is male, compared to 50.7 percent female.

Also, 3.7 percent of families in Lynnfield and 5.6 percent of individuals were said to be below the poverty level, compared to national averages that are, respectively, 9.9 percent and 13.5 percent.

When it comes to income, the 2005-2009 census data estimated an average per capita income in Lynnfield of $42,552, compared to a national average of $27.041. The median family income in town was estimated at $103,920, compared to the national average of $62,363.

The 62.4 percent of Lynnfielders who are actively in the work force reportedly spend an average of 30 minutes commuting to work, not far from the national average of 25.2 minutes.
