Lynnfield Rollover Sends Woman to the Hospital

A vehicle roll-over on I-95 in Lynnfield Sunday night sent one woman to the hospital and shut down traffic for more than 20 minutes.

A motorist towing a Jeep with a pickup truck on I-95 in Lynnfield Sunday night lost control of his vehicle and sent his trailer flying into oncoming traffic, state police said.

At 5:40 p.m., state police officers responded to the violent roll-over accident, which occurred on the southbound side of the highway, just north of exit 43 in Lynnfield. They were soon joined by members of the Peabody police and fire departments.

According to police, a 42-year-old Brockton man was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra truck with a Jeep Cherokee on a trailer behind him when "for reasons unknown to police" he lost control of his vehicle and flipped over.

"The vehicle that he was towing ended up going across the highway and colliding with a 1999 Buick Sentry," a state police media relations spokesman said Sunday night.

The 63-year-old woman who was driving the car that the trailer slammed into was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was reportedly shut down for more than 20 minutes while the accident scene was cleared and traffic was backed up for more than two hours.

State police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
