State Trooper Struck by Passing Vehicle on Route 128

A state police trooper suffered minor injuries after a passing vehicle struck his elbow while the trooper was making a traffic stop on Route 128 Tuesday morning.

A state police trooper was injured Tuesday morning after he was struck by a passing motor vehicle on Route 128.

Initial reports placed the accident in Peabody, but state police confirmed later it was over the town line in Lynnfield.

State police say the trooper was conducting a routine motor vehicle stop on the southbound side of the highway near the Route 1 off-ramps at approximately 9:44 a.m. when he was struck on the elbow by a passing vehicle.

The trooper, whose name was not released immediately, only suffered minor injuries and was able to get up and walk. He was transported by ambulance to Lahey Clinic for treatment and the extent of his injuries are not yet known, according to police.

A flatbed trailer was called in to remove his cruiser from the scene, but otherwise there were no signficant traffic delays because of the accident.

The Peabody Fire Department and Atlantic Ambulance responded to the scene and state police say they are still conducting an investigation into the accident.

They have not said at this time whether it's likely any charges will be filed.
