Police Provide More Info On 'Knockoff Party'

Nov. 26 "knockoff party" broken up, Lynnfield Police seize counterfeit luxury goods, charge one, with investigation continuing.

The following is from Lynnfield Police Chief David Breen:

Last week The Lynnfield Police received information that a party was to be hosted at Boiling Point Tanning Salon located in Kernwood Plaza in Lynnfield.  The party was planned as an opportunity for people to purchase counterfeit merchandise.

Upon learning of the upcoming event at the salon, Detective Hnath arranged to conduct surveillance with the assistance of Topsfield Police Detectives.  Andrea Powers, a private investigator working for the trademark holders, was able to gain access to the “Knockoff Party” by entering the salon posing as a patron and having conversation with the salon owner, Amanda Comita.  After further conversation, Comita invited Powers to the party.

On Nov. 26, at approximately 6:45 p.m., a white van driven by Annette Reed of Everett, arrived at the salon.  Officers observed several bags and boxes being carried into the salon.  Powers entered the salon posing as a patron.  After she observed a transaction take place, she signaled the officers outside to move in.

Reed was transported to the Lynnfield Police Station where she admitted selling the counterfeit items. In total, 280 items with an estimated sale value of 12,230.00 were seized.  It is estimated the retail value for the authentic merchandise would have been valued at over $200,000.00.

Reed was charged with selling merchandise bearing a counterfeit mark.  Her vehicle is subject to seizure.  Lynnfield Police are continuing to investigate and other suspects may be charged.
