Police Investigating Theft From Baubles Jewelry

Man made off with $1,400 gold chain on Thursday.

Lynnfield Police are currently investigating the theft of a valuable gold chain that occurred at Baubles in Post Office Square last week.

A police report on the incident shows that a man in a red sweatshirt and jeans, approximately 45 years old, had entered the store and proceeded to ask to see gold chains. Shortly before that, a woman, possibly an accomplice, reportedly entered the store and asked about looking at bracelets.

According to the police report, the male suspect tried on two gold chains and tried to hand back a chain to the clerk that was neither  made of gold nor tagged. When confronted with this, the man pulled the tag from his pocket and claimed he had made a mistake. As an employee went to call police, the man reportedly exited the building.

State Police units were called in to do a K-9 search. They found that the man's trail ended near the woods, indicating a vehicle had been likely waiting for him nearby. The man was said to have run around the corner of Baubles toward the Knights of Columbus Hall and Route 128.

Police have obtained a copy of the store's security tapes, and they are also reportedly seeking footage that would have been shot on cameras at the nearby Bank of America.
