Police Department Renews Motorcycle Lease For a Year

Kelly Automotive Group donates cost of leasing the Lynnfield Police Department motorcycle for the coming year.

The Lynnfield Police Department will lease its motorcycle for at least another year, courtesy of Brian Kelly of the Kelly Motor Group.

On Thursday, Chief David Breen and Officer Ray Barnes joined local media at Kelly Nissan to announce the renewal of the one-year lease, which started last year. Barnes is currently the only member of the Lynnfield force certified to use the motorcycle, although Breen indicated that he hopes to have one or two more officers certified in the coming months.

The Harley Davidson Ultraglide is a fully equipped police motorcycle weighing more than 850 pounds, with the full cost of the year's lease being donated by Kelly, who in recent months has also supported area community initiatives such as a turf project at Beverly High School and an after school program at Higgins Middle School in Peabody. Kelly also donated the cost of last year's Lynnfield motorcycle lease, which at that point was in the area of $4,000.

"We're very happy that Brian is going to continue the partnership. It's a very nice donation so that we can continue the motorcycle duties," said Breen. "His involvement in the community is exemplary."

The motorcycle was used over the past year for traffic control at events such as parades, funerals and sporting events, as well as appearances at Lynnfield schools. The department also expects the motorcycle to be useful when MarketStreet Lynnfield opens late this summer.
