Person Of Interest In Fat Cactus Shooting Arrested In NJ

Suspect was wanted for kidnapping, rape, assault with intent to rape, restraining order violation.

A person of interest in the recent shooting at the Fat Cactus on Route 1 in Lynnfield has been arrested in New Jersey.

On Thursday, New Jersey State Police units arrested 32-year-old Bayron Fajardo (aka Bayron Fajardo-Montoya) of Chelsea in the city of Irvington, NJ.

He is being held there on a warrant out of Chelsea for kidnapping, rape, assault with intent to rape, and a 209A restraining order violation.Those charges were filed after an April 22 incident in that city where the suspect allegedly forced a 27-year-old female acquaintance into a building and sexually assaulted her while armed with a knife. A state police announcement noted that the woman had a restraining order against Fajardo at the time.

According to the state police announcement, Fajardo is charged in New Jersey as a fugitive from justice. His arraignment in Massachusetts has not yet been scheduled.

At this point, Fajardo is not facing specific charges stemming from the shooting in the Fat Cactus parking lot, which took place around 1 a.m. on Saturday, April 30. A male and female victim were transported by Lynnfield Rescue units to Mass. General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. In an announcement Friday, Lynnfield Police reported that that particular investigation is still underway.

Police were able to work with information about the suspect's vehicle and in earlier stages of the investigation had only indicated that the matter had apparently . At the time, police also said that the male shooting victim had been an innocent bystander.

Lynnfield Police participated in a cooperative investigation that involved New Jersey law enforcement as well as the Massachusetts State Police, the Essex and Suffolk County District Attorneys' Offices, the Chelsea Police, and the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.
