Officer Arrests Man Who Allegedly Broke Into His Car

Lynnfield Police responded to these and other calls for service on Monday, July 29 and Tuesday, July 30, 2013. 

On Monday, July 29 at 4:09 a.m. a woman called to report a problem she was having with her brother's girlfriend. 
At 7:22 a.m. a motor vehicle break-in was reported on Stoneway. 
At 8:16 a.m. a motor vehicle break-in was reported on Stoneway. Some loose change was reportedly stolen. 
At 10:41 a.m. police took a call about a possible solicitor on Westway. It turned out to be an electrical meter reader. 
At 3:18 p.m. some youths on minibikes were reported on Apple Hill Lane. 
At 3:29 p.m. an accident was reported on North Broadway. 
At 5:35 p.m. a minor accident was reported on Walnut Street. 
At 7:16 p.m. police were informed of some youths fishing on a pond at Sagamore Spring Golf Course despite having been asked to stop previously. 
At 10:24 p.m. a two motorists were reportedly arguing near Heritage Lane and Main Street. 
At 11:34 p.m. a man was reported laying on the grass on Strout Ave. He turned out to be a resident. 

On Tuesday, July 30 at 10:09 a.m. suspicious people were reported on Village Row. They turned out to be Jehovah Witnesses. 
At 10:17 p.m. an officer had a youth walk a motor scooter home. 

On Wednesday, July 31 at 3:03 a.m. a Lynnfield officer reported spotting a man with a backpack and a bicycle near Walnut Street and began to ask him questions and requested a check inside of his backpack. In a follow up email, Lynnfield Police Chief David Breen reported that Officer Hnath recovered his own cell phone from the individual's backpack and that the suspect had appeared very nervous and provided inconsistent answers to questions.

The cell phone had apparently been stolen from Hnath's personal vehicle. Hnath was reportedly able to verify the cell phone was his by bringing up a photo of his dog. Police arrested Dennis Caulfield, 22, 24 Estes Street, Lynn, and charged him with breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, and possession of a Class C drug.
